You also have to be careful when there are pockets of 3s moving through the magma, because if for a split second the square beneath a forge/smelter/whatever drops to a 3, every job queued in that building gets canceled. This can be VERY bad if you've got a posessed dwarf working the forge.

It seems that the magma smelter's and forges previously unwalkable tiles are now walkable, which means that dwarves can fall through them and critters can (and have) come up from the magma when previously they could not. Is there a new way to prevent dwarves from falling through the smelters? Edit: Moral of the story is to plan ahead.
